Maximum number of clones

Asked by Skawt

Hi again, I just want to inquire about the maximum numbers of PCs that can be cloned from the original image? I have an original image and would like to clone it to hundreds of computers. Is there a limit for the number of clones?

TIA

I do not think so, there is no limit. But the system has an unique machine ID. It is used for system identification. If you want to use many separated systems, perform system installations. The installation process changes this ID. If you just copy the original system, then each shares a common identifier. This is bad in some situations.

I see, if I perform system installation, will it copy the permission that I created for the original system? Say for example, apps, file permission, etc?

Also do you think it will have conflict to the network if I copy the image on 500 computers? I haven't tested the network yet, probably by tomorrow?

Yes, all copied files will have the original permissions (but the file attributes are not preserved).
If you use different hostnames (it is changable when you install the system), then you can avoid the conflicts.

what kind of attributes? The machines are setup just to access a web app. Will it cause any issue once the machines (e.g. 500 - 800 machines ) connect to the network and access the web app simultaneously? They were provided with static IPs btw.

Check this link:

I think just try it first with a few machines (3-4). If everything is good, check with more machines. This is the safest solution.

Sorry to revive this thread. I just want to say Thank You! to Kendek for the support. I have used Systemback on 800+ machines for a project and it worked really well. No problems encountered.

Thank you so much !

P.S. Can we deploy Systemback over the network? PXE?

Can you help with this problem?
