"Boot Error" after "Write to USB"

Asked by Ralef

hello from Germany,

I am using Systemback under Lubuntu 15.10.
I am able to create a Live system with a size of 4.88GB. so it is not possible to create an *.iso.
If I try the option "Write to USB", it ends in a succes information and it seems to be allright.

After rebooting the USB-device the message fom Syslinux is "boot-error".
I tried everything from "https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Live-USB/", but nothing improves at all.
It only changed to the failure: No operating system. I also tried different USB-devices.

Does anybody has some ideas?

Thanks a lot
Ralef

This is a known Syslinux/GCC bug in the Ubuntu 15.10. See this bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/syslinux/+bug/1507002
The problem is fixed in the version 6.03+dfsg-11ubuntu1 on the Ubuntu 16.04. See the changelog:
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/s/syslinux/syslinux_6.03+dfsg-11ubuntu1/changelog

Thanks for the information.
I Am very new in the topic and do not understand everything I have to do.

I installed the 2 deb-files from Dwight Schauer in the bug report because I thaught this are the files I need but nothing changed at all? Do I have to upgrade to (L)Ubuntu16.04?

I think just download the syslinux and syslinux-common packages:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/syslinux
http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/syslinux-common

Install with dpkg:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

Hi Kendek. I'm having the same problem, but I can't seem to follow your directions.

The links lead you to download two files:

1. syslinux_6.03+dfsg.orig.tar.xz
2. syslinux_6.03+dfsg-11ubuntu1.debian.tar.xz

What are the next steps? I'm not able to follow the dpkg instruction on the decompressed files.

Um....nevermind! I was downloading the files on the right-hand side of the links, not clicking the file links at the bottom. For direct access, here they are :

SYSLINUX
64: http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/syslinux/download
i386 http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/i386/syslinux/download

SYSLINUX-COMMON
