Excluding Hidden User Files From Live System?

Asked by GMaq

Hi,

I've been away for a while and it's great to see Systemback continuing to improve! I'm using it with Debian Stretch with a custom built RT kernel and it works exactly as intended... Great Work Kendek!

I see it is possible to exclude hidden directories in the home folder from restore points, is there any way to exclude them from Live ISO creation? I want to create an ISO to share with others so I want to keep some hidden configs and remove some others. I already have a pre-configuration ready to load from /etc/skel which works as intended when the user installs from the ISO, but the Live system doesn't use /etc/skel.

Any possibility for an option for the Live System to simply use and load /etc/skel like the Systemback Installer does? Remastersys used to do this, then it was very easy to safely share a working system with others and keep your personal home folder safe and separate..

Thanks again for your work on Systemback, I will be testing it more regularly again and will be donating soon..

The Systemback Live is a restore point, itself. So the excluded items does not exists on the created Lives.
The Systemback uses the items from the /etc/skel directory, but only when the user wants. So the Live is a restore point, but when the user install the system, then if the "Transfer user configuration and data files" option is unchecked, then the all files and directories are excluded in the original user dir, and the items in the /etc/skel will be copied.

This program is a system backup and restore application, so the 'distribution' option (like Remastersys) for Live images is not a supported function.
But if you want a "personal data free" image, just duplicate your system (with the system copy or install function), and cleanse the copied one.

Hi!

Thanks for the quick answer! I understand that 'dist mode' is not what you are intending to do here. Now that it's clear that the excludes work for both restore points and Live ISO's that answers my question, thanks!

I suppose another option is to just create a fresh 'dummy' user on the system which will also import the config from /etc/skel and use Systemback with the 'dummy' user...

Anyway, either way my question is answered. Thank you very much!
