Ubuntu's Distro Linux Vs. two different NVidia's Sk video.

Asked by utente2015

I have two computers, the first with Sk NVidia Geforce 8500 GT and the second with Geforce 740m. First I installed the NVIDIA 340.65 driver. By SystemBack I created a distribution to use it on the second. The distribution, on the second PC with the 740m does not work. The screen goes black. Is there a way to overcome the problem and use the distribution created with both PCs? Mission impossible?

The NVIDIA 340.65 driver is compatible both of them GPUs. So, in principle, not be a problem. But if the /etc/fstab file is exist, try the fstabless Live boot. And check the safe graphics mode.

The /etc/fstab file is not exist.
The fstabless Live boot file is not exist.
In the safe graphics mode the system doesn't work.
The screen goes black in any case.
Bye.

Yeah, Unity is not good in safe graphics mode...
I don't know the better solution (and I don't have any NVIDIA card), but if the open-source graphics driver is works, just create a restore point on the first machine, uninstall NV driver and reboot system, create Live image and perform a system restoration. This new image is likely to boot correctly on the second machine, and the installation will be possible.

After numerous tests using drivers from reposority Ubuntu (331 tested and recommended) the Sk NVIDIA is recognized regularly by the two computers without modification. Bye bye!
