systemback dont create ISO file

Asked by Jander

Hello everybody,

I´m using the Systemback (on Ubuntu 13.10) to create a recover disk, but something is going wrong. I sucessfull created a live image (the .sblive extension file). This archive have a size of 4.3GB, so it´s smaller than an DVD, but bigger than a CD. When I go to the Live system creation tab and select this file, both option "Write to USB" and "ISO convert" remains unavailable. Why does this occur? It´s about the file size? I can´t reduce this file because I have yet excluded user data files, so there is any hope for this case?

Thanks a lot for any answer!!!

If the '.sblive' file size is larger than 4 GB, the '.iso' conversion is not possible. This is a filesystem limit.
If you select a USB device (pendrive) from the list (Write target), then the selected system image can be written to it.

Hi,

If there isn't enough free space in the working directory (in this case, a minimum of 2 GB), the converting isn't possible.

Hello
There is a way to create bigger iso with growisofs and so far.Maybe in the future versions?
I have some around 24 GB for using in virtualbox to emulate a BD disk like to add big folders because BSD support of guest additions is not that much.

This problem with size ISO i got too because i want not write to an usb stick direct, i have one with a lot of live images, in, created with yumi.

So it would be nice creating ISO bigger than 4GB with Systemback.

Another idea is, could Yumi detect and use sblive format?!
But this is anoother question direction --->pendrivelinux

Yeah, but not only the - original - ISO limitation is the problem. The source problem is the big filesystem.squashfs file. If this file size is greater than 4 GB, then step over the file size limitation in some filesystems.
The various .iso-to-USB writer application works with FAT32 filesystem. The FAT32 also has with this size limitation. The Systemback uses FAT32 and ext2 (for squashfs file) filesystems when the size is too big.
But not only the storage is the problem. If using ISO with level 3 (without 4 GB size limitation), the Live system does not boot. The boot process stops when trying to mount the filesystem.squashfs file.
So your idea is not feasible.

Thx for your answer Kendek.I understand now with the squashfs.Although.Your program is a milestone with the problem "start from scratch a million time".
Coz Volatile is teaching.

Hi Kendek,

I am using Systemback for my 100+ similar system installation. It's a great tool.
I am amazing to use it.

I have a small requirement.

1. I want to create periodical iso [ weekly] with existing system application through cron . How it is possible ?

2. Is "Live system create" possible by terminal command ?

3. Is there any plan in future to create ISO ( Live system ) from a central server location remotely ?

Warm regards.

Sorry, but currently the Systemback development is not running, so there is no any plan for the future. The automated Live system creation feature is not implemented, and the function is missing from the command line tool.
