The problem has not been solved. Here is a copy of the report shown on the
 Update Manager:

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include
the following error message:

'E:Type 'n' is not known on line 1 in source list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ubuntu-wine-ppa-karmic.list, E:The list of sources
could not be read.'

Please explain how I can remove the error message.

Jim

Jim, you've sent me emails, filed a bug report, and entered this question in launchpad answers. There is no need to do all three.

That is why I closed this one out. Please let's handle the issue in just one venue. I've already answered your bug report and your email.
