Problem using an external DVD drive

The computer will not recognize any DVD we put in. I am trying to rip DVD's so that my girlfriend does not need to have her external DVD player attached when she wants to watch something. She is running a Lemur UltraThin.

Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/ONE_TREE_HILL_S1_NA_D1 busy

Once you put the DVD in, can you play it with the Movie Player application?
