Window Menu button crashes titlebar

Asked by Reik Schatz

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 upgraded from 10.10. I use Unity not classic view. I have installed Equinox Evolution Dawn theme. I have some of the effects active like wobbling windows. My Windows when not maximized, have a little icon on the top right called "Window Menu". The button has a little arrow pointing downwards in it. Whenever I click the "Window Menu" button, I loose all the title bars of all windows, quite ugly crash. I have to run Alt+F2 "unity --replace" to reload Unity. Is this a bug? Can I remove the button from the UI so I don't click it accidentally?

No problem.

First, press Alt+F2 and enter "gconf-editor" into the command dialog. When that opens, navigate to /apps/metacity/general. Find the key called "button_layout", and change it so that it only reads "close, minimize, maximize:". Note that the colon on the end is important.
