Printer won't print anymore

Asked by Dazed&Confused

I have a Epson Stylus64 for which I have downloaded drivers several times. When I try to print test page, it stops downloading at 23%. When I check ink levels, I get message that printer may not be attached (it is). I have downloaded linux drivers several times.

As a side note, I was encouraged to switch to Linus by my neighbor and I am want to kill the guy for introducing me to unbelievable problems with downloading, printing, new hardware (I bought a new all in one epson that can't be used on this OS). So I am stuck w/ this old printer which now does not work. This OS is not regular person friendly. I am seriously thinking of going back to windows in light of the unbelievable hours I have spent trying to make this OS work for me and my family.

What kind of drivers did you download? As far as I understood there are not really drivers for your printer available. What you could do is extract the ppd file from the windows driver, and use that in linux. However scanning might not be possible then.

And do not blame an OS for not distributing drivers, you have to blame Epson for that. It is quite remarkable how much hardware is supported out of the box you know. Try Windows: you have to get buggy drivers from everywhere to be able to get photo's from your camera or to receive bluetooth, you call that person friendly??? Windows is just the largest, that is why all manufacturers make sure that there are drivers available for it.

Can you help with this problem?
