How to exempt a folder from synapse search?

I have some directories of files/apps that i would like to not have show up in synapse, is there a way to do this?

Is this something I would have to do with zeitgeist?

Yes, you'd have to delete the Zeitgeist events that point to a blacklisted location and set up proper Zeitgeist blacklist so it ignores such events in the future.
