Settings fall back to default on reboot

Upon reboot all display settings and tweaks return to default, such as wallpaper replaced with solid color icons change back to default minmize button dissapears and so on . I've been hunting for a button in the settings with the equivalent of apply changes or save but I find nothing?? Any one else have a problem.
