Request for provision to activate desktop

Asked by Arkoprovo Ghosh

Dear Developer,
I'm a real lover of Elementary OS, and I always install it in my friends' laptops. It's the perfect laptop OS, except that there is no provision to allow the default file manager to allow icons on the desktop. I'd be real glad, if one can allow the use of the desktop via the default file manager, rather than installing Nautilus to do the same.
Thank You.

What I do instead is to drag a few folders to my dock and access their contents via a simple menu, or you can just put the Files application there. Either way it's just as quick, if not quicker, to access your files this way than it is to drag your windows out of the way to click an icon you've put there.

elementary gets asked this a fair bit but they appear reluctant to add this dumping ground for documents, a decision which I personally support. Just because users have habits from other operating systems doesn't mean they need to be brought over, particularly if there are better solutions to the same problem.

I'm sorry if this answer sounds abrasive but I'm merely trying to explain why elementary is unlikely to add this and what you can do instead.

elementary gets asked this reasonably frequently but they appear quite reluctant to provide that dumping ground for documents. I personally support this decision. Just because users have habits from other operating systems doesn't mean they need to be brought over, and there are nicer ways to achieve the same function.

I'm sorry if this sounds abrasive but I'm merely trying to communicate why elementary is not keen on adding this feature and what you can do instead.
