Importing reference file.

Asked by James Adkins

I am currently unable to import my references from JabRef.
When I try opening the file it says, error importing bib file. I'm not entirely sure where I am going wrong as I have never used JabRef before and so I'm not sure the right way to save the database and move it over to the STK toolkit. I understand the file has to be a bibtex file and I think that's what I have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

James Adkins

Hi James,

Thanks for asking this. This is a generic error about the bibtex file.

However, in general, you should open your file in a text editor (notepad, etc) and check the entries. They should look something like:
@article{Smith_1999,
 author={Smith, B and Jones, M},
 title={A title},
 year=1999
}

With a lot more entries (like journal etc) within. the important things are the key (which is the Smith_1999). You should make sure all your entries have keys. In JabRef this is easily done by clicking the "magic wand" icon.

Try the above and check your file, and if you still have issues you can send me the file in question and I can advise (<email address hidden>).

Can you help with this problem?
