AVG Antivirus

Asked by felipe

The program run.exe from Subdownloader (2.0.7) is being reported as a "Potentially harmful program Logger.FNY".

Maybe it's my computer. But I prefer to think it's AVG. I did a virus check by AVG. AVG reports are split in 2 classes: viruses and spyware. The report is pointing run.exe as having spyware, not virus. And I think they test based on heuristics, which makes possible to be a false alarm. Thus, I believe it's a false positive.

I donwloaded from the site again, reinstalled and same result (resident shield appeared when installation finished).

Subdownloader version: 2.0.7
AVG Antivirus Free version: 8.0.175
Virus DB: 270.8.2/1740

Maybe someone can confirm this.

Felipe

Hello Felipe, the only information that SubDownloader is sending to the server is the hash (a 16 digits string) calculated from your videos and the subtitles(in case you upload).

You can check the source code of the program and even run the program from it (it uses pyQT) to be sure that we are not harming ur system or sending any private information at all.

I hope if you can verify that and send to AVG some kind of message saying that their warning is not correct, we will appreciate.

thanks.

SubDownloader team.
