Currently there is nothing the developers can do cause it's a problem of the API of the opensubtitles.org server.

SubDownloader, Boxee, and many other subtitle programs use the same source database.

They are posting their status fixing the problems here:

Well, mine isn't !!!!
When are you going to help me out ??? I still haven't been able to use the program once !

We are working to provide other servers. Currently all the open source projects that are using opensubtitles.org are down or working very slowly.

That's the internal API we all use and it seems all the time down, even if the opensubtitles.org claim to be fixed is not, we have sent already an email asking them some solution about it.
