I make a new skyculture (Aztec): problems and questions

Asked by Mulder

Hi, i make a new skyculture for the aztec civilization and have some problems and questions.

- I try to fit the images for the constelation in the constellationsart.fab file but it look distorted. How many points or stars i have to write for a good look of the constelation image? or So big or small must be the image for the figure of the constellations?

- My beta version is not seen completely or in Linux stellarium version 9, but it look good in the 10,2 for Windows. it is normal or I must take care of other things like permissions on archives?

- Once released my definitive version of Aztec skycultures, how i can contact to the developers so that this is including in Stellarium and to share it with the community.

If somebody interests to help me in the following link you can find the pre beta version of my project.

I will have a look at it when I have time (it probably will not be today).

By the way, why do you use Stellarium 0.9 on Linux? Version 0.10.2 was released for all three platforms.

Disclaimer: I am not one of the main developers.

The reason why some of the images are not displayed under Linux: OpenGL textures should have dimensions that are powers of 2, e.g. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, etc. Some systems support textures with sizes that don't follow this rule but other systems don't support such textures. It is safer to follow the rule.

As for the stars, I think that three are enough (three points define a plane), but you must make sure first that the relative position of the stars in the image matches approximately the relative positions of the stars in the sky. As far as I know, Stellarium cannot distort an image automatically to fit _all_ star positions. I am not very certain on this point. I have to check in the source code how exactly they are drawn.

You can contact the team using the public mailing list, which is accessible through the Stellarium Developers group:

I find the skycultures to be one of the very most interesting aspects of Stellarium and would love to see this expanded and added to in the future. I'd like to know how to get this Aztec bit into the Mac version.

The Aztec sky culture will be included in the next version of Stellarium. It should be released by the end of this week.
