won't launch after upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by Sonny

After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 Stellarium will no longer launch. Have removed and reinstalled but the problem remains the same (a very brief flash occurs during startup, and then nothing happens). Program has worked fine with earlier version of Ubuntu. (9.04)

Could you please provide information about your graphics card, RAM, etc?

Also, look in ~/.stellarium for a log.txt file. If the contents look relevant (e.g. this is not the file from the last good run), please attach it here.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

Graphics card is ATI Mobility Fire GL 7800 (64BM)

lot.txt (~/.stellarium) is:

This is very strange.

You can try deleting your ~/.stellarium folder, in case something in the configuration makes Stellarium to fail.

Also, you can try to find out if you have any corrupted or incompletely installed packages.

If you are using a proprietary driver for your graphics card (System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers), try updating it or re-installing it.

You can also try to set a lower screen resolution and/or turn off desktop effects.

If all of these don't help, I'll convert the question to a bug report. In this case the only other possibility would be to try to download the source of the development version and build it.

Hello again,

Below are the steps and results of latest attempt to resolve this issue:

Removed (un-installed) Stellarium
Deleted ~/.stellarium folder
restarted Ubuntu
installed Stellarium
-- same result, Stellarium not starting. (just a brief flash appearance)

(from - Synaptic Package Manager):
- 128933 packages listed, 1478 installed, 0 broken, 0 to install/upgrade, 0 to remove

(from - System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers):
- "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system."

- Desktop 'visual effects' are switched off.

Un-installed Stellarium, deleted '~/.stellarium' folder, re-installed
and changed desktop resolution. (1680 x 1050 ---> 1280 x 1024)

-- same result as above, Stellarium not starting.

Changed Config.ini file value:
[video]
fullscreen = false

-- same result, Stellarium not starting.

......

Below is a copy of the last log file:
