Oculars: why does view rotate when equatorial = true?

Asked by John Smart

I am using the Oculars plugin 1.1.8. Something I have wondered about for a while is:

- I have a telescope defined
- Equatorial Mount checkbox is true i.e. checked
- I centre on some selected object e.g. Uranus
- as I fast-forward through time (e.g. change time in 1hr increments) other objects in the ocular view appear to rotate around the selected object

The behaviour is the same whether I have Equatorial Mount switched on or off.

I expected the orientation of the view's objects to remain constant when using an equatorial mount. Isn't that the main point of an equatorial mount?

Thanks for any answers.

Hmm, well after wondering about that for ever, I now notice the button to switch equatorial mount on/off (Ctrl+M) and when I put equatorial mount on, then use Oculars plugin, I see no rotation with time.

So it seems to me the Oculars plugin checkbox for Equatorial Mount does not do anything. However the one in the program's main toolbar does. I'll try to remember that.
