EQ6-R mount and Mac OSx

Can anyone tell me how to control the above mount using a macbook pro with Stellarium please, not using Windows. I intend using a Lynx Astro EQDir cable and Mac driver to connect to the usb port on the macbook.

I never had a Mac. Do you need to be in some user group (dialout?) to be able to use the serial connection?
