build script file by capturing on-screen commands

Is it possible to build a draft script file by running Stellarium using mouse/keyboard operations, and saving these operations in a log file? If so, this would make it very easy to build a command file by stepping through a set of tasks manually, and then editing the resulting log. I'm an experienced R programmer but have never used Java or any of its descendants, so would find this functionality very useful.
