Sky Coverage

Asked by David Rankin

Feature request? I use stellarium to do astrometry (hunt asteroids). Is there a way to save areas I've looked at from previous nights with the CCD FOV display? If not, this would be an amazing feature. Also if we could import the sky coverage from the large surveys they publish on the MPC.

Thanks!

David

This would be amazing.

Basically, when you load up the CCD FOV, there would be an option to save out the CCD location (the red square indicator). So it is tagged with the location and date for later use as an overlay. So you'd be able to load up some date range that that shows all previous saved FOVs for that date range.

It would also be amazing to import the sky coverage of the large observatories found here:
http://www.minorplanetcenter.net/iau/SkyCoverage.html

This would help amateurs like myself avoid areas the large surveys recently hit easily, so we have a better chance of finding something new :)

Please let me know if you want any other info. I am familiar with coding (python). I know a lot of people would like this feature. I already made an interface between stellarium and find_orb here:
