Map of skydome

Asked by Randy Vellacott on 2016-11-03

I would like a way to snapshot the entire sky dome. At present the only way I can see is to take multiple screen shots. This seems a tedious way to proceed considering I would like to get an extremely high resolution and also vary the proportion of the star sizes, breaking out the milky way, stars and galaxies into separate images. Tiling the various star maps accurately would be difficult and mapping the screen snapshots back onto a sphere correctly also seems problematic. I essentially want to recreate the Stellium experience in a 3D app for visual effects production. Are there internal maps/images in Stellarium that get projected? If so is it possible to access them?

Get a 4x4 system of 4k screens and use Cylindrical projection.
StellARium creates images by mapping data.

I presently have 2 x 2560x1600 monitors on a Linux workstation. The apps that I use automatically map to both monitors ... Stellarium only seems to map to my main monitor. Is there a setting to get it to share monitors?
