Moon is too bright

Asked by Paul

I am using an older version of Stellarium, 0.13.0. When I upgraded to 14, the moon changed. In 0.13.0 I can see the phases of the moon as I advance it across the sky by days. When I see the moon in newer versions (including 0.15.0), the moon is a huge, bright blob in the sky until I zoom into it. The 0.13.0 version is much better for me when discussing the phases of the moon with students. Is there a parameter, or variable, or characteristic attribute that can be changed to turn off that huge glow around the moon? I would really like to upgrade to 0.15.0 so I can use the Ojibwe constellations that were added by my professor from SCSU, Annette Lee, but I am holding off because of this problem with the moon.

Thanks so much for your help. Stellarium ROCKS!

Yes, you can disable halo around the Moon, but you need edit file ssystem.ini in User Directory. Location of User Directory related to operating system and can be found in our wiki or in Stellarium User Guide.

In file ssystem.ini please find section [moon] and set halo=false.

Whoa! Awesome! I will try to find that and get it done. This would be super awesome because I want to upgrade to 0.15.0.

Thanks for the help!

You can also enlarge the moon to better see the phases.
