Stellarium in Unity3D

Asked by Timo

Hello,

I'm a Game Design student from Berlin and currently working on an archaeology project for a museum. Our plan is to create a plugin for the Unity3D Game Engine, where you can simulate the night sky from the past. We then want to use this plugin for several VR archaeology projects, using the HTC Vive.

I have already begun working on this plugin, but quickly realized that my understanding of astronomy is not sufficient to precisely calculate the needed data.
That's why my new approach is using the code from Stellarium for this purpose.

So my questions are:
Do you know of any efforts of developing something like I mentioned, a Unity3D Stellarium plugin?
Do you think it's possible to extract the calculation code from Stellarium and use it for that purpose (preferably without needing to rewrite all the C code as C#-Scripts)?
Or could you maybe hint me to a place where I can find the precise formulas to calculate the positions stars, planets, sun and moon from several millenia in the past?

I would be grateful for any help or feedback on this matter.

Best regards,
Timo

Yes. I collaborate with others on a similar project.
Extract calculation code: Better start from scratch, or let Stellarium paint the sky.
PM me for a discussion.

Can you help with this problem?
