Won't launch

Asked by see3ducks

I have Mint 17.3 XFCE. Stellarium 0.12.4 gives the splash screen only then closes. This was running fine on the Cinnamon desktop with 1GB of RAM but will not run on XFCE . Ideas?
Thanks

Oh well, once a decade it's time for new hardware...
Try some old Stellarium from 2008 or so?

the link you provided appeared to be for 'windows or Mac. As far as the computer goes I have what I have unless you are buying :-) Do you know WHY it won't run specifically?

Your system support OpenGL 1.4 only. You can try run Stellarium in safe mode (stellarium --safe-mode).

Sorry, did not realize the sources from antiquity are only on SF.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/stellarium/files/Stellarium-sources/

I find no concrete info if you have OpenGL1.4 or even less. But questions about old hardware have been so frequent that most possible variations (and our answers) are in the Frequently Asked Questions department. https://answers.launchpad.net/stellarium/+faqs

FAQ #2227: “Common problems with version 0.12”.

Can you help with this problem?
