Off-Axis Guider configuration

Asked by Diego Gomez

I there, I would appreciate if somebody could help me with the following: I am trying to configure the off-axis guider in the CCD sensor plug-in however, I am not sure about the parameters/data to be entered. For example: The software asks for Prism/CCD distance (mm). Is this the distance between the prism and the main CCD or between the prism and the guider CCD chip?

Unfortunately the manual hasn't been updated nor the help in the software so it is not clear what distance are you asking for.

Many thanks, Diego Gomez

I did not program this part and cannot give a definite answer, but why don't you try? When the question is CCD/prism distance, my most obvious guess is that this refers to the CCD which distance matters with respect to the prism.

Hi Gzotti, thanks for your quick reply however, I will wait to see if somebody else reply to this question. I've been searching in the Web for answers without much success. Apparently, the dimension required by Stellarium to draw the prism field of view circle is the distance from the center of the main sensor to the center of the prism but as I say, I am not sure.

Anyway, thanks a lot for getting back to me!.. Clear Skies!.. Diego

Well, it says radial distance. Ignore my previous statement then. This must describe the offset from center of CCD or from the optical axis. You are always faster when you play with the data and see what appears on the screen. See that immediately!

It is the distance of the prism (not center of the prism) from the telescope's optical axis.
Or it is the distance of the image seen through secondary CCD from the telescope's optical axis.

Change the distance and see the differences, you will understand immediately.
set it 0, then half of the height of main CCD.

Can you help with this problem?
