how to change the color of Mercury during its transit on 5/9/16

Asked by Chuck Boren III

I'd like to change the color of Mercury during its transit of the Sun on 5/9/16 so that it looks different when moving across the sun. I plan to make a movie but a white Mercury against the white sun doesn't make for an interesting movie.

If you zoom in, the white halo will disappear. You cannot change the colour without changing the program code.

I wonder, do you make this movie with atmosphere switched off?

I switched the atmosphere off and zoomed in leaving the view 'locked on'
Mercury however, at that zoom level you can't see the path of Mercury
moving across the sun from one side to the other without zooming out.

Set star absolute scale to 0, this solve your problem temporarily. you can plot mercury path but all stars will not be visible as absolute scale set to 0.
