planets not rendered

Asked by Dan Gerhards

Planets are not rendered in 0.14.1. The moon and deep space objects look fine, and planets appear normally (like stars) in the zoomed-out view. However, when I zoom in on a planet, there is no image. The selection indicator rotates around nothing. When I run from the terminal, this error appears hundreds of times:
EE r600_shader.c:157 r600_pipe_shader_create - translation from TGSI failed !
EE r600_state_common.c:758 r600_shader_select - Failed to build shader variant (type=1) -12

My OpenGL version seems to be high enough:
$ glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version"
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 10.3.7

The log.txt file agrees: "We should not see a graphics problem." The only suspicious line in log.txt is "libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile," but that doesn't seem severe enough to cause the planet problem.

We had some report a while ago where updating to Mesa 10.5 or higher helped.

Can you help with this problem?
