How to visualize field of view of camera?

Asked by Szabolcs

Hello,

Is it possible to visualize the field of view of a camera as a rectangle using Stellarium, perhaps using the ocular plugin?

I'm a bit lost with all the options of the ocular plugin as it's designed for telescopes, not for simple cameras. Is it possible to just provide the (say, horizontal) field of view of the camera in degrees and have Stellarium show a rectangle on screen? (Or even better: provide the focal length and sensor size / aspect-ratio.)

I'm not looking for anything very precise, just an approximate display of how big an object would appear when photographed using a given lens. I realize that most people will not want to use this as a telescope is more suitable for astrophotographs...

You can define your camera sensor and then define your lens focal length as a telescope. I noticed some time before that the results are ok with long focal lengths but not with short focal lengths, may be because the plugin uses an approximation formula.
