no stars after Stellarium download

Have Stellarium working OK on my Intel i7 win 7 professional desktop. Tried to upgrade my Stellarium 11 to Stellarium 12.4 on my Acer laptop (Stellarium 11 worked fine on this laptop). Acer is new and has a Intel i5 processor and a NVIDIA graphics card. OS is win 7 home edition. All went fine except there are no stars showing at all. Do not know what I have done wrong. Have tried to reinstall several times, same result.

There was an update to the star catalogs earlier this year which in some circumstances is not detected.
If you have not changed some fancy settings or installed some custom landscapes etc. which you may want to keep,
delete C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Stellarium.
(Maybe just rename first to see if this helps)
Then re-run the program. It should recreate the directory.
In this directory, there should also be a file "log.txt" which may contain diagnostic messages of the last program run that can help further in finding what was wrong. If the step above does not help, please attach the log file to any reply.
