Why can't I see the Andromeda Galaxy?

Asked by Mark Breen

The Andromeda Galaxy, while faint, is surely visible to the naked eye, especially on dark, moonless nights, with no pollution. After adjusting all these settings, it does not appear. It is my guess there is an issue with the way faint objects are rendered. Previous versions of Stellarium show this feature just fine - both with and without concerns about light pollution and moonlight.

I look forward to seeing this resolved.

As always you could help by better describing what you are doing. Program versions (current incriminated and that previous one), platform, hardware, settings like location, time, field of view so that one can reconstruct your problem. I have it on screen even in twilight if field of view is smaller than maybe 45°. So maybe just zoom in a bit?

I see it as I open the program today. But it definitely was not there a few days ago when I submitted my question. As no one else has posted this situation, I would have to assume it is my machine/graphics card? Thanks for answering the question, and I will follow up if I find something software related.
