Solar system observer question

Asked by Kent Arthur Schwitkis

Perhaps a dumb question. When in the Solar system observer (SSO) location, what does Az/Alt mean? I'd expect that when in the SSO position (by searching for it and then utilizing cntrl-G) and then searching for the sun, that the sun would either be at 0 or 180 degrees of altitude.

It seems that the Solar system observer is defined to be a planet like body. When you do a ctrl-G, your earth coordinates will be copied to be the SSO coordinates and when you open the location window and change your location on the SSO, the Az/Alt will change similar to the changes you experience from different location on Earth at one instance looking at a star directly above the orbital plane of Earth around the sun.

The Solar System observer definition is in the ssystem.ini file in the data directory of stellarium user area.
