liscencing and terms of use

Asked by Dan Oakley

Hi,

I wish to use some screen grabs of the stellarium software (constellation art and bortle conditions of full sky) for use within a educational media for the South Downs National Park Authority website. Is this allowed with the appropriate credits? We are looking to add the software as a link on our pages also.

The information will be used to help create media, e.g. a video tour on the world wide telescope, and a guess the constellation game,; on our light pollution and stargazing pages.

It would be very useful to be able to show the slow loss of light as the bortle scale increases, as the park builds up its application to become a dark skies reserve.

thanks

Dan

Some discussion on the legal information you can found here: http://sourceforge.net/p/stellarium/discussion/278769/thread/a8246348 + full reference and credits you can read into README: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~stellarium/stellarium/trunk/view/head:/README

The quick answer is: go for it! Credit is appreciated in the form of a mention of http://stellarium.org/

Longer answer: I have seen Stellarium screenshots used in commercial publications like sky guides (which means the legal people at those publishers are OK with it) and all the developers are cool with this as far as I know. The only thing which might need looking at is screenshots which prominently show images which we have used from other sources who may require attribution. Specifically the milky way texture and some planet texture maps. Details of every image's license can be found in the README.txt file which comes with Stellarium.

Can you help with this problem?
