what is useable earliest date pls ?

Asked by yoyojoe

I'm wondering if it's possible to set the date/time values to 10,000 - 20,000 BCE (at the moment it seems that the earliest date I am able to set is 100 AD) if not then are there any plans to realise star maps for very early (pre-history) times.

I've just come across Stellarium this weekend; it's helping me greatly with developing my understanding of Astronomy and the various terms and mapping types that are used within this field. My interest is in 'pre-history' archeology and it's related fields Paleoastronomy and Archeoastronomy.

Many thanks for an excellent and readily customisable Astronomy application, I'll be using it for the forseeable future to extend my interest and understanding since it makes it so much easier than 'diagrams' to follow the subject being discussed and explained by an author.

You can set the dates by using the minus sign "-" in the Date and Time window for years BCE. You can go back as far as -99998, but I do not know how accurate that would be. For Stellarium precision on solar system see Stellarium wiki here: http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Precision
