stars catalog how many stars per catalog ?

Asked by Shirish Agarwal

As per stellarium.org homepage there are 600,000 stars in the stellarium base package (without any extra star catalogs) .

When the first star catalog is downloaded (via F2 -> Tools > Get catalog 5 of 9

it states that :-

Download size :- 17 MB
Star Count :- 1.7 Million
Magnitude Range :- 10.5 -12

Does it mean that after downloading that star catalog and running Stellarium (again) I have

1.7 million + 600,000 = 2.3 million stars or 1.7 million stars in total ?

Another question as well, these are all just 'stars' which are downloaded , not comets or asteroids or are there few which get included in this as well ?

Looking forward to answers.
