Deactivate magnitude size

Asked by tt

Hello,

I would ask you kindly: How can i deactivate the magnitude depending size of the stars? Actually I deleted all stars and just downloaded the Near Earth Asteroids from MPC. If I scroll very close to the asteroids, I see them and the light dot. But these objects have magnitudes to 25m, so if I scroll / zoom out, I cant see them. I increased the absolute size of the objects and the dots became larger but still not visible for a great overview / zoomed out position.

Can someone help me please?

Best regards,

tt

Stellarium can not hide stars

Hello,

actually I deleted the star catalogues. I have only the asteroids.

No I just want to see the asteroids, when I zoom out and have an overview of the whole sky. The asteroids have a very small magnitude thus they disappear and are not visible. I would like to see them as small dots actually when I see the whole sky.

Best Regards

Stellarium does not work that way. You can not change the size objects are rendered at, without changing the viewport. The entire point of the app is to render as realistic a view as possible.

Stellarium can hide stars. Press [s] to toggle hide or show stars. So there is no need to delete star catalogues.

Hi tt,

This is a workaround that would achieve display of asteroids:

- download this file (MPC NEA) from this link: https://sites.google.com/site/falakiyat/nea1.txt?attredirects=0&d=1
- delete your old ssystem.ini from your stellarium user directory: C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Stellarium\data
- start stellarium, Stellarium will create a fresh ssystem.ini file
- go to the solar system plugin and configure
- Import orbital elements in MPC format ...
- select the source to be "A file containing a list of objects"
- specify the file you downloaded
- Get orbital elements
- Mark all
- Add objects

- you can hide stars by toggling [s] key on the keyboard.

The file has the absolute magnitude of all asteroids changed to 5.00. If you like the asteroids to be brighter make a global change of this value which is in column 9-13.

You should get a display similar to this: http://www.mekshat.com/pix/upload05/images246/mk7708_asteroids.jpg

If I understand correctly what tt needs:

In the Sky and viewing options window, enable "planet hints" and then move the "planets" slider to the right. This should make more Solar System objects visible for the given FOV.

Edit: Actually you are right, the asteroids luminosity are changed to 5.00 but thats ok.
