missing lettering in status bar

Two problems: 1) On my tower system, the status bar flickers and is missing most of the lettering. Also when an object is selected the info in the upper left corner flickers and most of the info is missing. this is not the case with my laptop running Windows 7. Tower unit is XP. Problem 2): When I bring up the two system within minutes of each other, the sun position on the tower is at 120 degrees and the laptop shows the sun at 207 degrees. Both units have the identical settings.

For part 1, please specify what graphics card and driver version you are using on your tower system. Often times such problems can be fix with one or both of these two solutions:

a) Try the "No OpenGL 2" version from the start menu
b) Update your video card driver to the most recent version from the /video card vendor's/ website (NOT the PC assembler's site - e.g. Dell, but the video card makers site, e.g. AMD / NVidia / Intel.)

For part 2, what is the time zone setting on each computer? Just having the correct local time setting is not enough - the time zone is also taken into account. Sometimes people have their time zone set to GMT or something else, even though they are actually in a different time zone, and their local time is offset to compensate for the difference.

If your computer time zone settings are not different, and there is something weird going on with how your computer is reporting the time to Stellarium, you can use the Time Zone plugin (config dialog [F2] -> Plugins -> Time zone -> check "Load at startup", re-start Stellarium if necessary -> configure button -> set as you wish).
