messier object file

Asked by Rick Arzadon

Using Stellarium V0.11.1 on a Windows 7 - 32 bit machine.

I would like to be able to enter Messier Objects e.g. M45 and
have the program slew to the object after a search.
Missing from the /nebula/default file are M32, 39, 40, 43, 45, 47, 77 & 88.

If a search is attempted using M45 it slews to the correct part of the sky but the four blue brackets are not on screen.
If a search is done using Pleiades all is OK because it is in the nebula/default file.

A new function in this release is a search of a 'simbad' database.
Not real good if you are out in the field using Stellarium.

When I try M40 it searches the 'simbad' database and comes up with "winnecke 4" - not a celestial object, that I know of!!
A search of M77 & M88 results in a lookup in 'simbad' and a slew to an incorrect position, or no object...

I found this:

But, it does not work.

Anyone know of anything that will work to add the proper info for the 8 Messier Objects above ?

Thanks

Search of M45 was fixed in trunk and it will included into next release (or you can use alpha release of 0.11.2 - http://launchpad.net/stellarium/0.11/0.11.1/+download/stellarium-bzr5094-win32.exe).

Some "missing" texture files (M32, 39, 40, 43, 45, 47, 77 & 88) we are not missed. This files not exists because we don't have free photos for this objects - troubles with copyrights. If you know where we can get free (copylefted or public domain) photos for those objects then we can add it into Stellarium installation package.

About instructions - I think you mean this instruction - http://resources.faulkes-telescope.com/mod/resource/view.php?id=1019
You need contact with David Mackenzie for get help because software from instruction not our. But you can read our User Guide for understanding mechanism of adding textures - http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Adding_Nebulae_Images

Can you help with this problem?
