Run External Command?

Is there a way to send information to and external command?
Perhaps to send the name of the current object to a wrapper that opens wikipedia in a browser.
Or to send any other information about current selection or state to the outside for processing?

Hyperlinks in HTML-based dialogs should already open the linked URL in your web browser when clicked. This includes the help dialog (about tab), and the information pane of the starlore tab of the view dialog. This does not apply to text in the selected object information text at present.

I considered adding the option to "shell out" in the scripting engine, but rejected the idea so far because it has security implications. I don't want a Stellarium script to become a possible attack vector, so access to any objects outside of Stellarium has been avoided.
