The -620/4/22 7:19 eclipse should be seen from Alexandria.

Asked by Alberto Gomez Gomez

Dear Stellarium programmers,
I’ve noticed something odd with the eclipse of –620/4/22 7:19. According to Ptolemy (Alm. 5.14), it was visible from Babylon and, of course, from Alexandria. This is confirmed by Espenak and Meeus’ Canon of Lunar Eclipses. Nevertheless, Stellarium shows this eclipse as entirely happening below the Alexandrian horizon, which must be wrong. I think Stellarium should be checked on this point because this particular eclipse is of a special importance in historical research. I don’t know what the source of this problem is. Maybe Stellarium uses a different (simplified?) formula for Delta T than Espenak and Meeus. If this is the source of the problem, I think Stellarium should adopt these authors’ formula, which is the finest available and freely downloadable from NASA’s web page. I can also provide it to you, should you need it.
Yours truly,
Alberto Gomez Gomez

At the moment, Stellarium does not implement any delta-T computation. It is being worked on, though.
