Try a different video card? I dunno. Also, please don't spam my personal mail box in addition to sending support requests here.

Is there anything relevant in dmesg output?

At least Basil's problem is the same as this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/stellarium/+bug/481669

It's a driver bug that has been fixed upstream:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34256

In the comments to the other bug report some users reported that updating from these PPAs helps (if you have Ubuntu):
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa

Can you help with this problem?
