Asked by Barry Glogau

I would like to control my Orion GoTO telescope. How does a person get a proper "plug in" for it?

If you are asking about the Telescope Control plug-in, it's included in the latest release of Stellarium (0.10.6), but it's not activated by default. You can activate it in the "Plugins" tab in the "Configuration" window (press F2 to open it) - just select the plug-in in the list, check the "Load at startup" box and restart Stellarium.

Of course, it's not guaranteed that the plug-in can control your telescope. What kind of Orion is it? What does it use for GoTo?

If it uses the SynScan hand control, there's a high chance that it can be controlled by Stellarium. Just select "Celestron NexStar (compatible)" in the device model list when you add the telescope connection. If you are successful, please report it and the model of your Orion telescope, so that I can add it to the list of supported devices.

Another possibility is to use ASCOM drivers and a third-party program such as StellariumScope to interface with them:

Thanks for your help. The Orion is a XX12g (new truss model). When the weather clears I will try it.

I have read this thread - I have stellarium 0.10.6.1 and followed the instructions to the plugs n tab in configuration window, but F2 does not open the plug ins. I have a Vista laptop. I have tried with and without the Mount/PC cable connected.

Any ideas?
