Export screen-shot automatically?

Asked by Verdomde

Hey, first-off, love Stellarium- I cant think of any way it could be improved. Good stuff

My question.

Would there be any way to automatically generate an image from Stellarium, say every 20 mins, to be stored with the same image name?

I ask, because I got the (rather nifty) xplanetfx desktop- which updates the desktop picture every 20 mins with a picture of the earth, from orbit, clouds and moon included. I thought it'd be a marvellous addition, to be able to put an accurate picture from Stellarium as the backdrop.

Im not a coder or developer, or anyone with any knowledge of how this stuff works, so forgive me if it's just a silly idea.
Thanks
Paul

Not a very nice one. You could write a script which takes a screenshot periodically, but the file name would not be the same every time - just the prefix.

Also... Stellarium is a pretty heavy program to have running all the time.

Right now there is a problem with startup scripts, so running the program periodically with a startup script to make a screenshot is not really an option (also, there's no real way to make it do this without flashing up on the screen when it runs, unless you use something like Xephyr, and then it gets really ugly. It's possible with the startup scripts run, but really not very nice.

Hey,
Yeah, that's kinda what I was supposing. I was hoping there'd be some way of generating the image without fully starting stellarium or something. It's a shame, because I can really visualise having the constellation artwork moving around my desktop, with the earth in front, the light moving around it and the constellations moving- would be ace.
Ah well. Thank you very much for your quick response :) Should I mark as solved? THere isn't an 'unsolve-able' button...

It's an opt-requested feature - to create a screenshot without displaying the app. Maybe one day it will be possible, but right now sadly not.

Please do mark as solved - the question is answered, even if the answer isn't what you were hoping for. Sorry about that!

Matthew
