Direction N-S should be reversed?

Asked by oun kwon

When I am looking to the direction of E or W, I expect N should be on my right and S on my left. But the view on Stellarium is reversed (it may be true for the observer living in the Southern hemisphere).

There must be somewhere in the program to allow the viewer to choose the proper orientation.

East or West? Do you mean East to West (i.e. the "W" cardinal point is in the center of the screen)?

As long as you are in azimuthal mount mode (as opposed to equatorial mount mode) North should be directly to the right of the W cardinal point. If it is not, you have flipped the horizontal view.

Note that key control-m (or the appropriate tool bar button) flips between azimuthal and equatorial mount mode.

You can flip horizontal display coordinates using the key combination: control-shit-h. You can flip vertical coordinates too with control-shift-v. Please see the help dialog for a full list of keys (press F1 to display it).

*edit* you beat me to it... :)
