Where are the downloadable extra star charts saved?

Asked by Robert Mexico

From within the program, I have the option to download a bunch more star info, but I'm not sure where on my hard drive it gets saved, and whether I can copy it over to another computer without having to install each one from the internet.

Yes, you can download stars catalogues on another computer and save it on own computer.

They are saved in the "stars" subdirectory of your user data directory. If you copy them to another computer and put them in the equivalent directory there, Stellarium will detect them automatically. (Expect just a bit longer loading time on the first run.)

Where the user data directory is depends on your operating system:

See http://stellarium.org/doc/0.10.6/fileStructure.html for how to
find the user data directory for your OS.
