10.6.1 will not start using Win7 32

Asked by Andy Tracy

No issues with previous versions. Installed 10.6.1 over the top. Stellarium ran once then crashes on every load. Tried uninstall, reboot, reinstall, no help. Samsung NC10 notebook - mobile Intel 945 chipset. Is there a log I can append? Thanks

Please, attach your log.txt

As Alex says, please post a copy of your log.txt file. You can find this in the UserDataDirectory, which will be something like:

  C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Stellarium

Please also describe in more detail what happens. Is there an error mesage? Does the splash screen appear etc.

One thing to try is to use the "Stellarium (No OpenGL2)" option from the start menu.

Thanks, guys.

Already tried No OpenGL2 from a thread elsewhere.

Yes I get the splashscreen then a Windows critical stop "donk" then a "Stellarium has stopped working - Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" dialog box.

Maybe add that I'm using Comodo Internet Security Premium - Stellarium is a known trusted app and it has never been an issue before.

Log.txt below.

Thanks, Andy

Do you have anything in your startup.ssc script?

Don't think so:

//
// Name: Startup Script
// Description: Script which runs automatically at startup
//

10.5 did start with the satellites but any changes to this files would have been effected by the app not manually by me.

Matthew, the contents of the log on Windows are accessible through a shortcut in Stellarium's Start menu folder - "Last run log". I think you were the one who added it. :)

Andy Tracy,
Please try deleting the whole user data folder, i.e. C:\Users\Andy\AppData\Roaming\Stellarium
According to your log, you don't have any additional star catalogues downloaded, so you won't lose anything.

I have been wondering about that, thanks for the reminder. Saved me
the effort of checking if it was still there (since the ISS stuff has
all been redone in the not too distant past, I wasn't 100% sure so I
just told a method I knew).

Thanks guys,

Bogdan's idea of deleting the whole folder seems to allow the app to run. Brilliant!

Though I seem to have lost the satellites.

Is the satellites button on the lower tool bar? The default setting
in 0.10.6 is to enable the plugin, but have the satellites button
turned off. Just click it or press control-Z to enable them.

If there is no satellites button, press F2 to show the config dialog,
navigate to the plugins tab, select satellites from the lisy, check
"load at startup" and restart Stellarium.

Thanks, Matthew, guess the settings got changed somewhere. Problem solved.

Is it possible to get the app to show visible satellites as NASA's J-track3D? That would be cool as I'm often at 37000ft around dawn/dusk. Would the best way to correct for altitude just be to alter the location altitude without saving as a new location?

And maybe a blue earth globe skin so it shows landmass rather than trees, etc would be good?

Thanks again, Andy
