How do you change the location and time?

Asked by Tara Storey

I am doing a school project and we need to do screen shots of 16 total eclipses from 2001 to 2010. How do you change the location and time i order to find these?

You need a list of geographical locations with the maximum phase of eclipse?

All this assumes version 0.10.5.

I would go about it like this:

1. turn off atmosphere, ground, fog and cardinals rendering (keys A, G, F, Q).
2. switch to equatorial mount mode (control-M)
3. speed up time to find when the moon is nearly over the sun.
4. when it's really close, open the location dialog (F6) and move the observer about and see if you can find a spot on the planet where the moon covers the Sun.

All of this is a bit of a pain, so it is probably quicker and easier to look up a list of eclipses from some web site, and set the time and date and location from this list.

You can use the J, K and L keys to slow down and speed up time, but it's probably easier to use the time and date dialog (F5 key). Note that the time in this dialog is the local time, not UTC, where as eclipse dates will probably be states in UTC.

Control-S takes a screenshot.

I hope that helps.
