Iridium satellites are in the wrong positions

Asked by Sean Adamson

When I view iridium satallites in stellarium 0.10.5 they appear in the wrong positions compared to my observations and the positions given on http://www.heavens-above.com/ for my location, but the positions of other satellites such as the 'ISS' is correct. The iridium data given in the 'satellites.json' file does not match the data given on http://celestrak.com/NORAD/elements/iridium.txt. I have tried forcing an update via the satellite plugin configuration window but this does not affect the positions of the satellites or the incorrect data in the 'satellites.json' file. Is their any way of making the satellites appear in their correct places without manually editing the data for each individual satellite in the 'satellites.json' file?

Thankyou in advance.

This is bug #616627. It has been fixed.

If you are using Windows and if you don't want to wait for the release, you can download "stellarium-bzr4766-experimental02-win32.exe" from here:
https://launchpad.net/stellarium/+download
The first time you use the new build, please click on the "Restore default settings" button in the Satellites plug-in's configuration window. This should force the old satellites.json file to be replaced with the repaired one.
