Landscapes

Asked by Andy

I am so sorry to bother you yet again but i need help please.
As the title says, Landscapes, and i have tried to download some, then upload some of these wonderful Landscapes but too no avail !

Short of throwing water over my PC to blow it up for good, and banging my head on the wall, can someone tell me how to do it ? Pretty please.
The one i really like is Jungfraujoch High Altitude Research Station. It looks the dogs bits !

Many thanks all

andy

OK, so you have the .zip file on your computer.

What you should do is locate your User Data Directory. The location depends on your operating system. This page will tell you how to find it:

http://stellarium.org/doc/0.10.5/fileStructure.html

As a confirmation that you got the right place, you should see the file config.ini in that directory.

OK, in the User Data Directory, create a new folder called "landscapes"

Copy the _contents_ of the downloaded .zip files into this new landscapes folder. Each .zip file has it's own folder, so after installing a couple of landscapes you should see a folder structure like this (UDD = user data directory)

UDD/
UDD/landscapes/
UDD/landscapes/jungfraujoch/
UDD/landscapes/jungfraujoch/landscape.ini
UDD/landscapes/jungfraujoch/jungfraujoch-4096.png
UDD/landscapes/jungfraujoch/Sphinx-Observatory_Jungfraujoch.kmz
UDD/landscapes/sahara/
UDD/landscapes/sahara/landscape.ini
UDD/landscapes/sahara/sahara.png
UDD/landscapes/sahara/readme.txt

I hope that is clear.

After the next release there will be a feature where you select a .zip file from within Stellarium and it will do the installation for you.

It is a little manual at the moment. I think the best thing is to wait for the next release and use the automatic install feature.
