Comet data catalogue's where are they?

Asked by Paul Anthony Brierley

I'm trying to find the position of C2003P Hartley2 and can't find it after running a search.

Also I would be grateful if somebody can tell me please, where I can find and UP dated comet catalogue file to run in Stellarium.

The default installation of Stellarium includes only one comet - C/2006 P1 (McNaught). You won't find comet 103P/Hartley unless you add it.

Solar System objects are defined in the ssystem.ini file in Stellarium's installation directory (the "data" subdirectory). You can create a copy that will override the original. Just create a "data" subdirectory in the user data directory, copy the original file there, make your modifications and save it.
http://www.stellarium.org/doc/head/fileStructure.html (for where the user data directory is on different operating systems)
There is more information in the Stellarium Wiki:
http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Solar_System_Objects

You can also download an experimental build from here:
https://launchpad.net/stellarium/+download
It includes a plug-in ("Comets and Asteroids") that will allow you to add almost any comet in the MPC's database.

In all cases, when you search for an object, make sure that you type in its name from the start. The "search" function behaves more like an "autocomplete" function. If Stellarium thinks that the comet is called "103P/Hartley", typing in "Hartley" won't find it, typing "103P" will.

Can you help with this problem?
